    Lithium batteries are at risk of leakage due to external force damage such as collision, extrusion, puncture, poor welding, loose sealing, excessive charging and discharging during the manufacturing process, and other complex factors.

    For example, the spot welding between the negative electrode tab and the steel shell is abnormal, resulting in a gap; another example is the laser welding between the cap and the steel shell, which is abnormal and creates a gap.The extremely small gap will not leak when it is first produced, but as moisture enters during use, the internal air pressure of the battery increases.The electrolyte will be squeezed out from the gaps, causing leakage.Because the gap is too small, it is difficult for the inspection process to effectively detect the presence of leaking batteries.

    Such problems lead to shortened battery life and poor customer experience, which will directly harm business and brand development.It is an indispensable link to detect the minimum leakage of lithium batteries.     How mass spectrometry (RGA) works
    Residual gas analyzer (RGA) is an instrument that determines the composition of gas by measuring the mass-charge ratio (m/z) of gas molecules through mass spectrometry.It mainly consists of an ion source, a mass analyzer and a detector. It is currently the lowest cost and most reliable liquid leakage detection method in the industry.

    The ion source uses electron bombardment ionization to ionize gas molecules into ions.For example, for common gas molecules such as nitrogen (N?), oxygen (O?), etc., will form corresponding ions such as N??, O??, etc. under electron bombardment.The same principle applies to batteries, and ionization analysis is performed on the components of the electrolyte.

    By applying specific DC and radio frequency electric fields through the quadrupole mass analyzer, ions with different mass-charge ratios have different motion trajectories in the electric field, thereby achieving ion separation.Finally, the detector detects the number of ions to determine whether there is leakage of lithium battery electrolyte.
